Our Story
The single-minded mission of the Kitchen Director is to return each client's investment in cabinetry, and related products and services, with enduring impact, superior value, and peace of mind in the invitation to work in their homes. The Kitchen Director's growing success in bringing design and process simplicity to homeowners in the increasingly complex world of custom cabinetry and luxury remodeling, has an amazing and serendipitous parallel to a similar success story in U.S. history a century ago.
In the early 1900's, two brothers named Greene (Charles and Henry Greene), with original roots in Ohio and West Virginia, who offered integrated design and construction services focused on the residential market, are credited for bringing the ideals of simplicity and exquisite craftsmanship to the American Arts and Crafts Movement. The Greene brothers love for the simple was obvious in the refined architectural simplicity incorporated into all of their home projects; exemplifying the ideal of the simple life that pervaded the Arts and Crafts philosophy at that time. Early in their architectural and construction career, The Greene brothers teamed up with architect and businessman Herbert Langford Warren, the eventual founder of Harvard University's architecture program, also a proponent of simplicity and its virtues. Warren believed that process and technology could be better leveraged to create production scalability, and who had a passion for driving sales by promoting the work of craftsman and artisans like the Greene brothers into the public market. Warren pioneered what today we call the "Showroom". He had a passion to make what he then called the "Salesroom" a sound business venture, and was successful in marketing the work of architects and craftsmen through this sales channel. Warren, who became President of the Society of Arts and Crafts in 1904, enabled the society's members to market their work through the retail "salesroom", which was highly valued by the members. Today the retail "Showroom" is the cabinetry businesses preeminent business model.
Now a century later, in the early 2000's, The Kitchen Director is living out a remarkably parallel story. Two brothers named Green (Alan and Mike Green), who've offered integrated design-build construction related services focused on the residential market for 25+ years, teamed up with businessman Mark Warren, amazingly all with original roots in Ohio and West Virginia, to start a cabinetry design firm in 2003. The Kitchen Director is focused on serving the residential market, with the specific business objectives of marketing a process of simplicity and high quality cabinetry and installation craftsmanship to homeowners, professional remodelers, interior designers and architect professionals. The Green brothers, the construction professionals, and Warren, the sales and marketing business professional, have the vision of growing The Kitchen Director into a multi-market cabinetry design firm. Presently, The Kitchen Director, with two Studio "Showrooms" - in Lakeland and South Tampa - serve the Tampa Bay and Central Florida markets. Mark Warren, President of the National Kitchen and Bath Association in Central Florida, and Representative for NKBA North America, believes that by simplifying the process and experience for his clients, that The Kitchen Director can scale the great work of his professional cabinetry designers, and allied professionals - interior designers and professional remodelers - to the luxury market of semi-custom and custom cabinetry design and installation. Inspired by Herbert Warren's vision of the "salesroom" 100 years ago, Mark Warren has ideas to transform today's "Showroom" into a more effective venue of inspiration for clients choosing to do business with his progressive design firm.
